Emily enjoyed childhood on the wide open plains of Kansas, dreaming of the mountains to the west. When she was eleven, her family headed west to be amidst the pines and red stones of Colorado. Unable to resist the call to go further west, Emily went to Los Angeles to study Anthropology and Studio Arts at Occidental College. Four months were spent in Western Samoa, Fiji and the Hawaiian Islands. More recently she has traveled to Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Japan and New Zealand. In 2001, Emily came to New York City to study illustration at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. Today, she teaches art classes for children at Church Street School in Tribeca and at the Central Park Early Learning Center on 65th Street.
